Interviewer: Introduce Yourself and Your Company
Nick Peroni: My name is Nick Peroni. I’m an ecommerce entrepreneur, and best known as the creator of Ecom Empires. Ecom Empires started as a Facebook Group in 2016 and has since grown into a worldwide brand with over 85K members. In the last 2 years, I’ve spoken in over 20 countries for different events and masterminds and formed partnerships with some of the top sellers and vendors in the game. And most importantly, I’ve been able to help thousands of people find success with an online business.
Interviewer: How did you get the idea of starting an eCommerce Store in the first place?
Nick Peroni: I was already running a successful business, but was immediately intrigued when I heard about dropshipping. This was back in the final months of 2015. I saw people making thousands of dollars a day selling products from AliExpress with Facebook ads. And I had to get in on that action. Plus I was already growing separate from my other company because I had a partner I didn’t get along with. So at the beginning of 2016, I made my move. I bought a course, got started, and never looked back since then.
Interviewer: How did you find your niche?
Nick Peroni: In the beginning, I actually started my first store trying to sell in a local niche. I was from Philadelphia and thought I could sell Philadelphia-based designs and items. But it was too small and it didn’t work well. So I moved to a new strategy that’s now become a popular way to dropship.
I looked for trending items that had mass appeal. I find that the home goods niche, the sports and recreation niche, and the health and beauty niche have worked the best for me. There are always plenty of new and unique items to sell in those categories.
Interviewer: Where (platform) and How did you go about building your first store online?
Nick Peroni: I’ve always used Shopify. In fact, Shopify is what made the whole thing so easy. As a platform with simple templates, it’s easy to get a store set up in a few days and start selling items. I already had a lot of experience in web design, so it was an easy transition for me to build my first store using the Shopify templates. In my first store, I used the free Supply Theme.
Interviewer: What did you do to get your first few sales?
Nick Peroni: Facebook Ads. You can learn more about Nick’s Marketing Strategies Here
Interviewer: What does it feel like to make your very first sale?
The feeling of your first sale is validation. It lets you know this whole thing is real. Because even though your first sale doesn’t make you rich, it lets you know this idea works. And once you know the idea works, it’s like your whole world changes with excitement about what’s possible from there.
Interviewer: What’s been your biggest accomplishment with your online store?
Nick Peroni: Still being in business 3 years later haha. But seriously, most people come and go in this game. Or they fake their numbers. Or they have a good month, but three months later their store is closed. So I’m looking for consistency. I’ve made great money so far, but the accomplishments that I’m shooting for are much higher than anything I’ve done. So for me, the accomplishment is to still be here and still be growing stronger 3 years later.
Interviewer: Which strategy or tactic has been your biggest moneymaker?
Nick Peroni: The biggest moneymaker strategy for me is spying on the competition. You can literally find out everything you need to know about creating successful stores, finding great product ideas, and designing great ads by REVERSE ENGINEERING what your competitors are doing.
Interviewer: Which mistake did you learn the most from?
Nick Peroni: I make constant mistakes, most of it is just trial and error. But I think the biggest mistake I learned from is trusting the wrong people. It can be such a waste of time and resources when you trust the wrong people to help build your business. This is a mistake I think most of us make when getting started because we are just eager to grow. But as I’ve worked with people and advanced in my own success, my vetting process has become much stricter. Because I’ve learned most people can’t deliver even half of what they promise.
Interviewer: What motivates you?
Nick Peroni: I’m motivated by wanting to have an impact on the world. For me, eCommerce is just a vehicle to do bigger things. I think the skill sets we learn by building and scaling an online business is something that can contribute value in so many ways to others. So I am working to develop the skills that will allow me to impact lives all around the world.
Interviewer: How has your life changed?
Nick Peroni: My life changed completely. It’s not just a cliche. I went from feeling stuck to traveling the world and living a completely free life. In the last 3 years, I’ve been to over 2 dozen countries. At one point I traveled for almost 18 months straight, enjoying the world at my own pace and doing whatever felt right. Ecommerce has opened doors for me, provided an amazing network of friends and partners, and given me financial freedom. That’s why I am so passionate about teaching others, so they can experience this feeling too.
Interviewer: What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out?
Nick Peroni: My number one piece of advice is completely about mindset. Because I believe ANYONE can achieve this, but 90% of people don’t have the right mindset to create success with ecommerce. You need to understand this is a long term game, not a short term cash grab. Because while IT IS POSSIBLE to make a lot of money in a relatively short period of time (compared to most business models or jobs), you need to treat this like a real business. And real businesses are built in the RESEARCH. This part a successful mindset understands. Because someone who plans and researches is prepared, and they are creating a definite plan for success. People who just get started and wing it, thinking they’ll throw some products out there and hopefully get rich, are doomed from the start.
So to get practical about this- you need to identify a niche that you want to sell in. No need to reinvent the wheel, pick a major category like I mentioned above and start researching. There will always be room for success inside these niches- Home Goods, Health and Beauty, Sports and Fitness. So start there, and work your way down into a sub-niche so you can build a micro brand around a few products. This takes time and research. Look at Aliexpress, look at Amazon, look at Google Trends and Keyword Planner. Identify and validate demand for your niche, and start finding product ideas that fit.
Then start looking at your competitors out there in that niche. Find stores that are doing well. Go check their products, go check their checkout process. Go find their Facebook page, their Instagram page, and whatever else they do on social media. Sign up to their email lists. Use spy tools like SimilarWeb and BuiltWith to break down their traffic and tech. Go through as much as you can to put together a model of how their business works. Then you can model it, and create a new brand around your research.
You need a plan and a strategy when you get started. This is why most people fail because they don’t have one. Great marketing and ecommerce success are made in the research.
Also, study copywriting and advertising from past legends like Claude Hopkins, John Carlton, Dan Kennedy, Jay Abraham, and David Ogilvy, to name a few. There’s a lot of new, self-proclaimed experts out there yelling for attention. But studying the greats is how you know you’re getting the best info.
Interviewer: How do you help other people change their life?
Nick Peroni: I help by introducing people to the ecommerce opportunity, and providing both education and resources to help them succeed in that opportunity. That’s why I created Ecom Empires, which provides a Free course that shows people how to get started, find a niche, build a store, and market their products.
So there you have it, having read this exclusive with Nick Peroni and how he achieved the things he has been able to achieve, are you motivated? are you seeing the light? It doesn’t end here, now you have to make use of these advises and create something for yourself.
Ecommerce requires consistent efforts and putting those efforts to the right channels, do well to get the Ecom Empires free course, It will really help and point you in the right direction.
